FIRST THEY CAME FOR MY COLLEGE is a new documentary about the political takeover of New College of Florida, and the students, faculty, and community members who fought back to defend public education, free speech, and democracy. It opens at the Green Light Theater in St. Petersburg from 9/19-9/24.
The film follows what happened after Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, appointed a slate of conservative trustees to remake New College, a small public liberal arts school long known for its progressive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and student-driven culture. What unfolds is a story about higher education, censorship, queer and trans rights, public institutions, and the growing political attacks on schools across the country.
