The Major Gifts Officer/ Development Officer is a full-time position that requires a collaborative and entrepreneurial fundraising professional to help Feeding Tampa Bay deepen and develop a more robust and sustainable philanthropic development program. The ideal candidate will have strong major giving experience and some capital campaign experience. They will be an agile fundraiser who is ready and eager to get out and fundraise. The MGO/ DO is joining a small capital campaign team, within a larger development team, at a critical time in its growth and expansion to new prospects. They will be responsible to deepen existing donor relationships and identify and help to cultivate new potential donors. This position will work with the staff leadership and a campaign committee to advance Feeding Tampa Bay’s capital campaign and its goals to develop an ongoing major giving program. 


  • Work collaboratively with Chief Development Officer, Capital Campaign Director, and campaign counsel to identify top major gift prospects from within and outside FTB’s network.
  • Support the work of the Capital  Campaign Committee in all aspects of campaign fundraising.
  • Help with, and in some cases lead, research and development of individual strategies for prospects and  create a comprehensive stewardship program.
  • Manage a portfolio of campaign  prospects, including: the identification, cultivation, solicitation, in-person prospect meetings with existing leadership annual giving  prospects ($2,500+) and some major gift prospects ($10,000+), and stewardship of prospects.
  • Help to secure funding from  private and corporate philanthropy.
  • Refine the existing prospect information management system, as needed, to best support and track campaign progress
  • Manage and help to design and implement strategies for various campaign activities, including donor cultivation and stewardship events, and campaign celebration.
  • Participate in campaign  committee meetings and regularly report on portfolio progress.
  • Ensure all prospect activities and communications are accurately entered into Salesforce in a timely manner; and
  • Other appropriate duties, as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience within a major gifts officer role
  • Minimum of five years of major gifts fundraising experience, preferably in a campaign setting but not required
  • Demonstrated success in closing  gift solicitations at the five- to seven-figure level
  • Proven ability to effectively develop major gift fundraising and advancement operations best practices
  • Strong influencing and  collaboration skills with the credibility and persuasiveness to secure support from diverse sources
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral  and written communications, organizational and time-management
  • Demonstrated success  interfacing with board members and volunteers
  • Excellent computer skills,  including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and donor databases
  • Demonstrated ability to meet goals on time and handle multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and ability to thrive in both small and large group settings
  • Strong team player
  • Experience working for a social service or community-based organization a plus
  • Ability to work occasional night or weekend events or meetings
